What Are the Wisconsin Grade 5 Math Standards?
The Wisconsin Academic Standards for Mathematics outline what students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade level. For fifth grade, these standards cover five main areas that build on what students learned in fourth grade and prepare them for sixth grade concepts.
These aren't optional suggestions. They're the baseline for what your child is expected to learn this year. If your kid is struggling, the standards tell you exactly where the gaps are.
The Five Math Domains for Grade 5
Wisconsin organizes fifth grade math into five domains. Each one covers specific skills and concepts.

They also need to analyze patterns and relationships. If you give them a rule like "multiply by 3," they should be able to generate a sequence and explain the relationship between input and output values.

Number and Operations in Base Ten

Example: 342.056 = 300 + 40 + 2 + 0.05 + 0.006
Students also compare decimals to the thousandths place and round decimals to any place. Multi-digit multiplication and division come into play here too. They should be able to multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm and divide using long division.
